ENUGU — The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that its anti-cultism operatives shot an entertainer, Izuchukwu Nnaji, known as "Stone", during a raid on a hotel in the city.

The police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, said Nnaji was arrested at about 3am on Wednesday at The Bull Hotel during an operation targeting a suspected drug dealer and cult member. Ten people aged between 17 and 28 were arrested and suspected cannabis was recovered. Police claim Nnaji jumped out of a window and struggled for an officer's gun, which went off.

His body was found on Thursday at the mortuary of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, prompting a protest by youths. The Commissioner of Police, Bitrus Giwa, has ordered the State Intelligence Department to investigate.
