KANO — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), covering the January and July 2026 promotion cycles.

The board's Executive Chairman, Yusuf Kabir, had requested N235.1 million for the promotions in a letter dated 2 September. They cover staff in all 44 local government education authorities. SUBEB has about 60,000 employees.

According to the board, the administration inherited promotion backlogs dating back several years and has now cleared them. The approval was ratified at a recent meeting of the State Executive Council.
