ABUJA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says any polling unit result that does not match the figures recorded on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will not be uploaded to its results viewing portal, IReV.
INEC's Director of ICT, Dr Lawrence Bayode, said this at the launch of the AI4Elections Hackathon organised by RiseNetworks in Abuja. He said AI-based document processing would compare BVAS data with scanned EC8 result sheets before transmission, and that the commission had set up an artificial intelligence unit within its ICT department. A framework for the responsible use of AI is still being developed.
The Chief Executive of RiseNetworks, Dr Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, said INEC, Meta, Google and Microsoft were partners in the programme.
