LAGOS — Lagos State has launched a mandatory building insurance scheme, the first state to do so under the new insurance law. The first phase targets about 500,000 buildings in 20 local government areas, including public and commercial buildings, hotels, schools and buildings of more than two floors. Owners who fail to comply face fines of up to N5 million, a year in prison or both.
