New Ports Economic Regulator Begins Operations

LAGOS — The Nigeria Ports Economic Regulatory Agency has started operations after President Bola Tinubu signed its establishment bill into law. The agency, which grew out of the Nigerian Shippers' Council, will regulate port tariffs, licensing, service standards and competition, and protect port users, while the Nigerian Ports Authority keeps its role as landlord. Executive Secretary Pius Akutah said users should see clearer regulation within one to two years.
