ABUJA — The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit says terrorist financiers are using bank accounts opened in the names of wives, sisters and other women while men control the funds. Its 2025 annual report also describes crowdfunding schemes that collect donations of $50 to $500 to avoid detection, pool the money and send it to Nigeria through remittance apps. Some facilitators use SIM cards registered to dead people or proxies.
