Dangote Refinery Drives Seven-Fold Rise in Petroleum Product Exports

LAGOS — Nigeria's seaborne petroleum product shipments averaged 561,000 barrels per day in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 79,000 in 2023, according to the US Energy Information Administration, citing Vortexa data. Exports reached about 350,000 bpd, including 130,000 bpd to Europe, while imports fell from nearly 400,000 bpd in 2023 to under 130,000. The change is driven by the Dangote refinery, whose capacity rose to 700,000 bpd in February 2026.
