ABUJA — The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission says cement costs more in Nigeria than in Kenya, Tanzania and Togo. Its three-month investigation found that a 50kg bag rose from N9,300–9,700 in January to as much as N15,000 in parts of the country by July, compared with about N7,344 in Kenya. Nigeria has 60 to 65 million tonnes of capacity against demand of 25 to 30 million tonnes, and three companies control more than 90 per cent of capacity. The commission said all but one manufacturer cooperated and that summonses have been issued.
