CPPE Says Real Sector Faces N50trn Funding Gap

LAGOS — Nigeria's productive sectors face a financing gap of more than N50 trillion, according to a policy brief by the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise. Its chief executive, Muda Yusuf, said the 26.5 per cent policy rate and 45 per cent cash reserve requirement push lending rates out of reach. He noted that agriculture accounts for more than a fifth of GDP but has historically received less than 5 per cent of bank credit, and called for the recapitalisation of the Bank of Industry and Bank of Agriculture, credit guarantees and less government borrowing from banks.
