LAGOS — Uber has stopped operating in Nigeria with effect from 2 September 2026, 12 years after it launched in Lagos in 2014. Checks by Daily Trust show the company once had more than 5,000 driver-partners in the country but lost ground to competitors including Bolt, inDrive and LagRide, and had operated without a country manager for some time. Globally, Uber is cutting about 10 per cent of its workforce. Professor Ibe Callistus cited competition and fuel costs.
