LAGOS — Category III instrument landing systems installed at Lagos and Abuja airports in 2019 are not being used at that level, and the airports operate on Category II, according to an inquiry by ThisDay. The newspaper said the project cost N7.58 billion and that supporting lighting and power were never provided. In a rejoinder, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency said the contract was worth N1.19 billion, not N7.58 billion, and was approved by the Bureau of Public Procurement and the Federal Executive Council. NAMA said the systems were commissioned in February 2020 and later operated at Category II after reliability and safety concerns.
