LAGOS — Banks deposited a total of N77.19 trillion with the Central Bank of Nigeria's Standing Deposit Facility over 19 business days in September, an average of N4.06 trillion a day, while borrowing about N920 billion from the bank. After the Monetary Policy Committee cut the policy rate to 23 per cent on 22 September, the rate paid on deposits fell to 20 per cent. Ambrose Omordion of Investdata said banks are parking funds with the central bank to avoid the risk of bad loans.
