Refiners Call for Ban on Fuel Imports as Court Protects Importers

LAGOS — Local refinery owners have called for a gradual ban on the importation of petroleum products. At the Nigeria Oil Refining Summit in Lagos, Momoh Oyarekhua, president of the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association, also called for the naira-for-crude scheme to be fully implemented and for stricter enforcement of the obligation to supply crude to local refineries. Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, ordered the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority to continue issuing import licences to Matrix Energy, AA Rano and AYM Shafa.
