ABA — A $50 million completion loan from Afreximbank helped finish the Aba Integrated Power Project, an investment of more than $900 million that was delayed for nearly 20 years, a visit by ThisDay found. The Geometric Power plant, chaired by Barth Nnaji, has 141 megawatts installed against a licence of 188MW, while Aba's demand is about 50 to 60MW. Gas comes through a 27-kilometre pipeline. The distribution company serves about 250,000 customers, almost all metered. A hospital and a polytechnic told the newspaper they had cut energy costs by 40 and 80 per cent respectively. Talks are under way with Governor Alex Otti to extend supply to the rest of Abia State.
