LAGOS — Dangote Petroleum Refinery has stopped selling petrol to marketers who also import the product, refinery sources told Daily Trust. One official said the decision is meant to prevent the refinery's fuel from being blended with imported petrol, while another said independent marketers who do not import now get priority. Billy Gillis-Harry, president of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association (PETROAN), said the refinery is free to decide how it sells its products and that it is for the government to decide whether to step in. Energy analyst Rasheed Adeleke said the move protects the quality of the refinery's product and is not necessarily an attempt at monopoly. Aliko Dangote recently called for many successful refineries in Nigeria and for imported and local products to compete under the same rules.
