Tinubu Says Economy Growing Above 4% and Oil Theft Falling

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu said in his Independence Day broadcast that Nigeria's economy is growing by more than 4 per cent this year, driven by both oil and non-oil sectors, and that oil theft has fallen. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show growth of 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026 and 3.89 per cent in the first. Tinubu said non-oil exports exceeded $6 billion in 2025 and warned against a return to fuel subsidies. He said the emergency phase of reform is over and the focus now is on living standards. The Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association described the recovery as fragile.
