LAGOS — Nigerian airlines say they may cut flights to unprofitable routes because of the high cost of aviation fuel. The price of Jet A1 rose from about N900 per litre before the US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February to a peak of N3,500 and now stands around N2,500, according to the Airline Operators of Nigeria. Air Peace Chairman Allen Onyema told ThisDay that the fuel bill for a single flight rose from N3 million to between N12 million and N13 million. Aero Contractors Chief Executive Ado Sanusi said routes that are not viable may be dropped. Fuel supplier Chris Ndulue of Ndano Energy said most supply now comes from Dangote Refinery and the problem is price, not scarcity.
