Political leaders from across Nigeria have called on citizens to uphold the values of peace, unity and national cohesion as the year draws to a close. In separate public statements, the leaders stressed the need for Nigerians to set aside political, ethnic and religious differences in favour of cooperation and mutual respect to strengthen the country's democratic foundations. They noted that while Nigeria continues to face economic, security and governance challenges, meaningful progress can only be achieved through collective action and a shared commitment to national development. According to the leaders, dialogue remains one of the most effective tools for resolving disagreements and promoting peaceful coexistence among communities. They urged citizens to reject violence, intolerance and divisive rhetoric, encouraging instead a culture of understanding and constructive engagement. Several speakers highlighted the importance of responsible leadership at all levels of government, saying public officials must continue to place the interests of the people above personal or political considerations. They also called on young people, traditional institutions, religious organisations and civil society groups to play active roles in fostering harmony and encouraging civic participation. The leaders expressed confidence that Nigeria possesses the human and institutional capacity to overcome its current challenges through perseverance, accountability and national unity. They further urged Nigerians to remain hopeful about the future, describing the end of the year as an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned while renewing commitment to building a more prosperous and peaceful nation. They concluded that sustained cooperation between government and citizens would be vital in advancing democratic governance, promoting social stability and creating an environment where every Nigerian can contribute meaningfully to national progress.
