ABUJA — Nigeria loses about $450 million a year to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has said. He spoke when he received Norway's ambassador, Svein Baera, who presented the Blue Justice initiative. The scheme gives member countries free access to real-time and historical satellite tracking data on vessels. Nigeria agreed to join. Oyetola said foreign operators take fish illegally from Nigerian waters and sell it back in the country at high prices.
