BANGKOK — Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele said President Bola Tinubu is willing to take unpopular decisions, even close to an election, when he believes they are right. Speaking on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank meetings, Oyedele said he once suggested delaying three issues until after the election and the president asked whether doing so was the right thing. He also said Tinubu fully supports central bank independence. Nigeria's external reserves stood at $55.1 billion on 9 October, the highest in more than 18 years.
