LAGOS — A coalition of African civil society groups has called on governments to reject the privatisation of water services. Speaking during an Africa Week of Action Against Water Privatisation, Geoffrey Occansey of Ghana's Water Citizens Network said 167 million people in sub-Saharan Africa rely on limited water services and that poor households buying from vendors pay 10 to 20 times more per unit. The coalition called for transparent contracts and public financing of water infrastructure.
