ABUJA — New retailers have moved into many of the spaces left by Shoprite in Nigeria, visits by Daily Trust reporters have found. Shoprite Holdings left Nigeria in 2021 and its franchise passed to Ketron Investment, and most of the remaining stores had closed by September 2025. In Abuja, SPAR now operates at Novare Central Mall in Wuse Zone 5, and Market Square at Gateway Mall on Airport Road. Sinomart has taken over the former outlets in Ilorin and at Ibadan Mall on Ring Road. In Lagos, the Ikeja space is now used by a mix of businesses, while the Surulere site looks run-down. A source told the newspaper that Shoprite is not coming back.
