Wrongly Disconnected Electricity Customers Entitled to Free Power Credits, NERC Says

ABUJA — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission says electricity customers who are wrongly disconnected are entitled to energy credits equal to three months of their average consumption for each day they were without supply. In a metering factsheet published on X, the regulator said faulty meters must be repaired or replaced within 48 hours and that no reconnection fee may be charged after a wrongful disconnection. Meters bought under the Meter Asset Provider scheme must be installed within 10 days of payment and refunded as energy credits. Meters under the Mass Metering and DISREP programmes are free, and anyone charged for them is entitled to a full refund. Complaints should go first to the distribution company, then to a NERC forum office after 15 days, and finally to the commission's headquarters.
