PORT HARCOURT — NNPC Ltd has confirmed an explosion on a gas pipeline operated by its subsidiary, NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), in Aleto community, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In a statement, the company said it was deeply concerned by reports of injuries and damage to homes and businesses. It said NGIC had activated its emergency procedures and isolated the affected section of the pipeline.

NNPC said it was working with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, security agencies and other stakeholders to assess the impact on residents, property and the environment. The company did not give the number of people injured or the cause of the explosion.
