KADUNA — The National Centre Managers' Forum of the National Teachers' Institute (NTI) has suspended the warning strike it began on 12 October over unpaid allowances.
In a statement, the forum's National Chairman, Tam Frank, and National Secretary, Mamuda Doguwa, directed members to resume work and take part in the ongoing teaching practice exercise. The forum says its members are owed allowances for every semester from 2020 to 2025 and the first semester of 2026, across the Pivotal Teacher Training Programme, the NCE, degree programmes and the Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
Under the agreement reached with the institute's management, represented by a special technical assistant to the Director-General, Professor Salisu Bature, payment of arrears will begin in the last week of November and continue in instalments. Once the backlog is cleared, allowances will be paid within a month of the end of each semester. Course materials have been released and more certificates are to be issued between 14 and 20 November.
