LAGOS — The 1976 graduating set of the Lagos City College Old Students' Association (LACCOSA) is marking 50 years since leaving school with a week of events and new support for their alma mater.
At a press conference in Lagos on Monday, the chairman of the anniversary committee, Dave Nwanze, said the set has provided desks and lockers, water, solar power, photocopiers and laptops, and refurbished the school's physics, chemistry, biology and agricultural science laboratories. Members living in North America are funding scholarships for 40 students over three to four years.
The celebrations run from 19 to 24 October and include mentorship lectures at the school, the inauguration of a community project and an interfaith thanksgiving on 21 October, followed by a gala in Ikeja on 24 October. The set also plans awards for the best students in science, commercial and arts subjects.
Nwanze said the school recently received approval to open a junior secondary section. Another alumnus, Kunle Sanyaolu, warned that enrolment is growing faster than the number of teachers and facilities, which he said is hurting learning.
