ABUJA — The Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Musiliu Oseni, has called on all operators in the power sector to strengthen their defences against cyber attacks.

Speaking through the commission's Vice Chairman, Dr Yusuf Ali, at a cybersecurity awareness seminar, Oseni said cyber threats now go well beyond the financial sector and pose a major risk to electricity systems around the world. He warned that a single weak point could bring down the entire grid, and urged every operator in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry to improve compliance.

He said cyber resilience should not be treated as an ICT issue alone but built into business and strategic decisions, and proposed a sector-wide emergency mechanism for rapid incident response and information sharing.
