ABEOKUTA — Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has suspended Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, the Eselu of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North Local Government Area, with immediate effect.

The suspension was conveyed in a letter dated 20 October 2026 and signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat. It said the State Executive Council approved the decision under Section 52(1) of the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021, pending an investigation into complaints that the monarch engaged in open partisan politics.

Under the terms of the suspension, the monarch must vacate the palace, must not present himself as the Eselu, and must not use the crown, beads, beaded staff or other royal regalia. He is also required to appear before any panel set up to investigate the complaints.

Copies of the letter were sent to the Secretary of Yewa North Local Government and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police.
