'Tinubu Must Go' vs 'Tinubu Must Stay': The Forces Behind the Campaigns

ABUJA — Two rival campaigns, 'Tinubu Must Go' and 'Tinubu Must Stay', are gaining ground ahead of the 2027 elections. The 'Tinubu Must Go' movement, linked to human rights lawyer Abba Hikima and activist Hamza Nuhu Dantani, gained prominence during the June 12 protests and has been endorsed by ADC candidate Atiku Abubakar. Five men arrested in Maiduguri over 'Tinubu Must Go' T-shirts were granted bail on October 6, and police in Kano blocked a planned meeting of the movement. On the other side, the 'Tinubu Must Stay' group, launched in Abuja on October 1 by engineer Ibrahim Uba, cites small business grants and economic growth figures. Analysts who spoke to Daily Trust described the two movements as a sign of an increasingly polarised campaign.
