The Akwa Ibom State Government will set up a special monitoring task force to tackle truancy, child hawking during school hours and non-enrolment of school-age children. The Commissioner for Education, Ubong Umoh, said the task force will stop pupils who come late or leave class during school hours, and confront parents and guardians who have not enrolled their children. The ministry defined school hours as 8am to 2pm on weekdays. No start date or penalties were announced. The move follows Governor Umo Eno's declaration of a state of emergency in education.
