ABUJA — The House of Representatives Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships and Higher Education Financing has warned tertiary institutions against manipulating funds from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). The committee's chairman, Ifeoluwa Ehindero, said some institutions withhold funds, delay refunds to students or refund only part of what is owed. He said the NELFUND guidelines allow for suspension, recovery of funds and referral to law enforcement agencies. The committee said it would step up its oversight of participating institutions. In May, about 3,000 students of the University of Calabar received refunds.
