A claim by Niger State Governor Umaru Bago that UNICEF predicted Shiroro and Munya local government areas would have no boys in JSS1 by 2027 is false, according to a Premium Times fact-check. The governor made the claim on Channels Television on September 20. UNICEF Communication Specialist Samuel Kaalu told the newspaper that the agency neither conducted nor commissioned such a study. UNICEF did fund a July 2025 study on the impact of insecurity on access to education in Katsina, Zamfara and Niger states, which covered Shiroro, Munya and Rafi, but it made no such prediction.
