Mahama Tells University of Offa Graduates Certificates Are a Foundation, Not a Finish Line

OFFA, KWARA — Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has said governments must create the right environment for jobs rather than shift the burden of unemployment onto graduates. Mahama, represented by his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, spoke at the maiden convocation of the University of Offa, Kwara State. He told the graduates that their certificates are a foundation and not a finish line, and urged them to use AI and technology responsibly and to look to the African Continental Free Trade Area for opportunities. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kazeem Alagbe Gbolagade, said 140 students graduated, eight with first class degrees. The university, licensed in 2021, began in 2022 with two faculties and 10 programmes and now has four faculties and 17 programmes. Its intake has grown from 81 students in 2022/2023 to 640 new students in 2026/2027. The university appealed for support to build hostels, a library and a 1,000-seat lecture theatre.
