ABUJA — Prof. Pauline Onyeukwu of Baze University, Abuja, has called for investment to unlock Nigeria's blue economy. Delivering the university's eighth inaugural lecture, titled 'Blue Economy and Blue Entrepreneurship: Popular Error and Unpopular Truth', she said the country's rivers, lakes and dams could create jobs if backed by funding and supportive policies. She described the sector as capital-intensive and said it needs federal support. Onyeukwu urged young people and women to start businesses rather than wait for jobs, but warned against overexploitation, citing oil spills and erosion in the Niger Delta. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, said the blue economy deserves more attention in Nigeria.
