Army Chief Visits Borno as Parents Mark 155 Days Since Children's Abduction

MAIDUGURI — The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Waidi Shuaibu, arrived in Maiduguri on Saturday as parents of 78 schoolchildren abducted in Askira-Uba Local Government Area marked 155 days since the abduction of the Mussa pupils. The parents said they had postponed a planned trip to Abuja because they could not afford it. The chairman of the Association of the Abducted Children's Parents, Ishaku Suya, said no top security chief had visited Mussa or Lassa, and urged the army chief to go there. Earlier in the week, Governor Babagana Zulum met President Bola Tinubu, who then directed security chiefs to launch rescue operations. The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, said on October 15 that the President wants no terrorist or bandit camp left standing. During his visit, the army chief met officers of Operation Hadin Kai at Maimalari Cantonment and paid a visit to the governor.
