ABUJA — The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to pay salary arrears due under the 2026 FGN-SSANU agreement, with effect from January 1, 2026, or face an indefinite strike without further notice. The union's National President, Mohammed Ibrahim, issued the communique after its National Executive Council meeting at the University of Uyo from September 30 to October 1. The union also demanded payment of two months' salaries withheld during the 2022 strike and one year of arrears from the 25 and 35 per cent salary increases. Ibrahim said implementation in state universities had been uneven and urged state governments to fund the new structure. He also called for investment in power, laboratories, ICT and security in universities.
