KANO — The Kano State Government has approved the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), covering the January and July 2026 exercises. The government released N235.1 million to implement the promotions across the 44 Local Government Education Authorities. The approval followed a request by the SUBEB chairman, Yusuf Kabir, and was ratified by the State Executive Council under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. SUBEB has about 60,000 staff and inherited years of promotion arrears. Teachers who spoke to Daily Trust welcomed the decision and called for prompt and transparent implementation, while an educationist urged the government to also invest in training, learning materials and infrastructure.
