ATBU Students Urged to Report Gender-Based Violence on Campus

BAUCHI — Students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, have been urged to report cases of gender-based violence on campus. The call was made at a one-day sensitisation organised by the Bauchi State Ministry of Justice and the university's Faculty of Environmental Technology, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The Solicitor General, Sabiu Adamu Gumba, represented by the Director of Public Prosecutions, urged students not to trade sex for grades and explained that the state's Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) law covers intimidation, assault, rape and cybercrime. The Dean of the faculty, Prof. Adamu Babayo, said two students from each department and level were selected as ambassadors, and stressed that men can also be victims.
