Ondo Agrees to Adopt Federal Pay for Universities, but Umbrella Union Rejects Deal

AKURE — The Ondo State Government says it has reached an agreement with university unions to adopt federal pay and allowances, and will fully domesticate the academic salary structure agreed between the Federal Government and ASUU. The announcement was made in a statement by the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan. The state had earlier made an intervention of N1.1 billion to pay arrears at Adekunle Ajasin University, and the ASUU branch at the university commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. However, the Joint Action Committee of Ondo State Tertiary Institutions, which brings together SSANU, NASU and NAAT, rejected the deal, saying only the AAUA branch of ASUU attended the talks. The committee described the process as divide and rule, and demanded that the agreement apply from August 2026 with arrears from January 2026.
