Nasarawa Village Head Fines Parents N50,000 for Children Found at Mining Sites

NASARAWA EGGON — The village head of Gbado Ummeh in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Isah Akpu, has introduced a N50,000 fine for parents whose children are found at mining sites during school hours. The decision followed a community meeting, and town criers are spreading the message. At a mining site in Kodoro Ummeh, a Premium Times reporter saw children as young as six working. A 12-year-old boy, Ibrahim Kasim, said he earns N3,000 a day. A mother, Aisha Danladi, said the children were at the site only because schools were not in session.
