ABUJA — Most of the 117 Federal Unity Colleges remained shut seven days after the planned resumption date, as a faction of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria led by Shehu Mohammed continued its strike over the concession of King's College, Lagos. The faction insisted there would be no resumption without a reversal of the concession. A ministry memo dated September 18 had directed students to resume on September 20. Parents' leaders at Federal Government College, Rubochi, Federal Government Girls' College, Abaji, King's College and Federal Government College, Ijanikin, told parents to keep their children at home. The Ministry of Education, through its Director of Press, Boriowo Folasade, disowned a group calling itself the National PTA of Unity Colleges. The Education Rights Campaign and the PTA Chairmen Forum also opposed the concession.
