Unity College Workers Suspend Strike, Clearing Way for Reopening

KANO — The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has suspended its strike over the planned concession of King's College, Lagos, opening the way for Federal Unity Colleges across the country to reopen. The decision was taken at a meeting in Kano of the Trade Union Congress, ASCSN and zonal coordinators, and announced in a communique on Wednesday. A seven-member committee, on which ASCSN has two seats, will review the concession document, and the concession is on hold in the meantime. Workers had boycotted the planned resumption of the colleges on September 13. The Parents-Teachers Association has proposed that students return on Sunday, September 27, subject to confirmation by the Ministry of Education.
