NEW YORK — Nigeria and Italy have backed a campaign by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) to raise $5 billion for education globally. President Bola Tinubu spoke by video at the 'Multiply Possibility' event on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented him in person. Shettima described spending on education as an investment in the country's economic future. He said the President had directed that funds recovered by the EFCC, once legally cleared, be transferred to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, and that the Federal Executive Council had approved considering unclaimed dividends and dormant funds for the loan scheme. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed also spoke at the event.
