ABUJA — The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) will begin implementing its Universal Basic Education Roadmap 2026-2035 in October, using what it calls a whole-school approach. The Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, announced the plan at a two-day workshop with the chairmen of the 36 State Universal Basic Education Boards. Under the new approach, SUBEBs must assess all the gaps in a school, including classrooms, fencing, toilets, furniture and digital facilities, before receiving intervention funds. Garba also unveiled a digital planning and monitoring platform that will allow communities to track projects. A revised matching-grant formula will allow states to direct funds to their own priorities, including recruiting additional teachers.
