Parents of Abducted Borno Pupils Head to Abuja After Ultimatum Expires

MAIDUGURI — Parents of 78 schoolchildren abducted in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State say they will take their protest to the Presidential Villa in Abuja after a six-day ultimatum to the Federal Government expired. Forty-two pupils were abducted in Mussa on May 15 and 36 students in Lassa on June 29, 2026, and they have now spent more than 136 days in captivity. The chairman of the parents' association, Ishaku Suya, told Daily Trust that they will remain in Abuja until President Bola Tinubu meets them. He said the children are believed to be held in the Damboa forest, and accused the government of failing to deploy drones as it did in the rescue of pupils abducted in Oyo State, who were freed after 56 days. The parents' last contact with officials was a meeting with Governor Babagana Zulum.
