DAMATURU — Yobe State will build 50 new secondary schools and rehabilitate 225 others under the World Bank-supported Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE). The state AGILE coordinator, Abdullahi Dahiru Bulah, said 104 schools are being rehabilitated through small and medium grants, while 121 more are covered by large grants. He said 875 desktop computers had been supplied to 35 schools, 25 each, with solar power and internet, and 15 more schools are next in line. There are 20 non-formal learning centres, with 100 more being established. Girls moving from one level of school to the next receive conditional cash transfers, with later payments depending on at least 70 per cent attendance. A behaviour-change programme is being piloted in seven local government areas before being extended to all 17 in the last quarter of 2026.
