Yobe Assembly Pledges Support as State University Seeks TETFund Interventions

DAMATURU — The Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Chiroma Buba Mashio, has promised increased budgetary support for Yobe State University (YSU) and help in securing interventions from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. He made the pledge when the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Tahir, led the university's management on a visit to the Assembly on Tuesday. The Speaker said YSU would be invited to defend its 2027 budget and asked the university to advise the Assembly on problems in primary and secondary schools. Tahir, who took office in January 2026, said Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography had been accredited. He said the university is sponsoring 16 doctors abroad, 32 staff are on postgraduate training in Nigeria, and new additions include a Biomedical Science centre, six postgraduate programmes and a Faculty of Computing. Ten students hold scholarships sponsored by Ashaka Cement.
