ABUJA — The Federal Government says the National Library headquarters in Abuja will be modelled on the National Library of Qatar. The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, told contractors and consultants on the project that the idea followed First Lady Oluremi Tinubu's visit to Qatar. Plans include dedicated spaces for children, persons with disabilities and pregnant women, as well as ergonomic furniture. Alausa warned that contractors who fail to meet timelines will be penalised. The project was conceived in 1981 and construction began in 2006 with a 24-month completion period, but it remains unfinished. About N25 billion was raised for it in 2025, and the work has now been split into infrastructure and furnishing components.
