GWAGWALADA, FCT — A 13-year-old student, Alhassan Jamil, was swept away by floodwater on Wednesday morning while on his way to school in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory. The boy, a junior secondary student of Ihyau El-Burhan Academy, Phase 3, Gwagwalada, was riding on a motorcycle with his father, Jamil Maikasuwa, across a flooded culvert. His father told Daily Trust that the boy jumped off the motorcycle in fear, and his attempt to grab him failed. The body had not been recovered at the time of reporting, and fishermen and divers were mobilised to search for him. Residents said they saw the body floating with the school bag still on his back.
