FG Bans Borrowed Staff and Equipment for Accreditation, Releases Eight Months of CATA

ABUJA — The Federal Government has inaugurated a ministerial committee on accreditation and quality assurance in tertiary institutions, chaired by former JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede. Inaugurating the committee, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said institutions will no longer be allowed to borrow staff or equipment to pass accreditation visits. He warned that officials who compromise standards could lose their jobs, and private institutions could lose their licences. The committee is to develop a digital, evidence-based accreditation system with continuous verification. Alausa also announced that eight months of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), covering January to August 2026, had been released to academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education under the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement. Payment for non-academic staff is expected in a few weeks. He added that 16,000 people had been selected for the first cohort of the Digital Training Academy from 72,850 applications.
